Dear Chowder Society,
We just wanted to give you a quick update about what the Pep Band has
up to during the past few months and how FVPB has been helping out.
In October, the Pep Band (with help from a few alums) performed an
exhibition scramble show at a well known high school marching band
competition in Northern Virginia (the Oakton Classic). The Pep Band had
them rolling in the aisles. One band parent came up afterwards and said,
"Man, I've never seen anything like that before!" Sound familiar? (The
Band got this gig thanks to an FVPB connection at Oakton High School.)
From November through February, the Pep Band played at the home games of
the U.Va. Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Clubs. The Band's energetic music
and "creative" cheers have received effusive praise from Men's ice
coach Roger Voisinet and more than a few peeved looks from opposing
players. (By the way, the men's ice hockey team just won their 7th
Coast Collegiate Hockey League championship in the past 10 years! Well,
the basketball team gets good again, at least we have hockey!)
From March 4 to March 6, the Pep Band will hit the road for a fun Spring
Break road trip. The Band will be stopping in Philly to play at a
basketball game at the University of Pennsylvania and then proceeding to
New York City to play at a basketball game at Columbia University,
merriment along the way. Although the Pep Band would prefer to go
truly exciting this March (like Fayetteville), the City of Brotherly
and the Big Apple will just have to do! (FVPB is helping out by
a $1,000 grant to pay for transportation expenses!)
Finally, thanks again to everyone who donated during our recent
e-fundraising drive. You gifts are helping the Pep Band stay strong!
(For those of you who would still like to give, its never too late . . .
and its still tax deductible! Click here to find out how to donate:
Also, if you have any ideas or would like to get involved with FVPB,
please let us know. You can e-mail us at
